LAKE TITICACA EXPEDITION:

The Primordial Waters

High in the Andean plateau, straddling the borders of Peru and Bolivia, Lake Titicaca is much, much more than just a natural wonder, with its infinite hues of blue and the crisp, rarefied air that unites sky and water in a placid, timeless atmosphere. It is a sacred oasis that has profoundly shaped the cultural and spiritual identity of the Andean peoples for millennia.

According to Andean mythology (Inca and pre-Inca), from the waters of the lake emerged Viracocha, the supreme deity, creator of the sky, the earth, all living beings and all other deities. The Inca civilization, rooted in Andean mythology, traces its origins to Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, the first rulers sent by Viracocha to establish civilization. Emerging from the depths of Lake Titicaca, they carried a golden staff that guided them to the site of Cusco, the future capital of the Inca Empire.

These beliefs have solidified the lake’s status as a central pillar in Andean cultural and spiritual traditions. Up until today, indigenous Aymara and Quechua communities see the lake as a living entity, one that offers and sustains all life, and keep performing ancient rituals and practices to honour the water spirits.

Numerous archaeological sites on the shores of the lake confirm the importance that Titicaca has had over the centuries. Some of these sites, such as Tiahuanaco on the Bolivian side of the lake, feature impressive architectural structures and continue to fascinate researchers around the world, showing evidence of extremely advanced societies many centuries before the Incas.

Lake Titicaca Expedition (4D/3N)

Day 1 ARRIVAL AT THE LAKE – AMARU MURU

Your journey starts with a visit to the sensational site of Amaru Muru. What better place to begin our immersion in the ancient culture of this land than this imposing portal carved into the rock, which is believed to give access to other ultra-terrestrial dimensions?
Day 2 AMANTANI ISLAND

You will devote this entire day to discovering the island of Amantani, your base on this journey. You will visit the temples of Pachatata and Pachamama, located atop the island's two hills. In the afternoon, you will delve into the traditions and spirituality of Amantani, and have the chance to participate in traditional ceremonies.
Day 3 TIAHUANACO

Get ready to explore the ancient wonders of Tiahuanaco, a UNESCO Heritage Site. You'll cross the lake and journey to the Bolivian coast to witness the remnants of a sophisticated civilization that flourished between 300 AD and 1000 AD. Marvel at the mysteries of this enigmatic culture, whose origins and decline remain a subject of debate among scholars.
Day 4 SILLUSTANI - PUNO

You will bid farewell to Amantani after breakfast. Back on the mainland, explore Sillustani's ancient burial towers, their silhouettes stark against a stunning backdrop. As your journey concludes, take a moment  to soak in the Lake’s energy – a lasting memory of this transformative exploration of Peru's roots and breathtaking landscapes.
